A major road connecting East Lancashire to Manchester which has been plagued by potholes is to be repaired.
The southbound carriageway of the A682 from Rawtenstall to the M66 will be resurfaced.
Lancashire County Council has agreed to undertake the work on the Rawtenstall by-pass after a campaign by Rossendale and Darwen MP Sir Jake Berry,
The highway authority is in the process of setting a date for the resurfacing to be carried out.
Sir Jake Berry said: "The southbound side of the A682 which connects Rawtenstall to the M66 and is the main commuter route out of the Valley has been in a very poor state for many months, made considerably worse by the poor weather over winter.
"Thousands of people use this road every day to get to work and were forced to drive over huge potholes, gaping cracks and loose tarmac, even swerving into other lanes or onto the grass verge to avoid damaging their cars.
“Resurfacing of the Rawtenstall by-pass has been a long time coming, but I am pleased that the county council has now agreed to carry out the works, ensuring everyone can use the road safely.
“I am in very regular contact with the county council advising them which roads in Rossendale need their attention.
"So, if anyone knows of a street that is in need of repair, please contact me via email at jake.berry.mp@parliament or phone on 01706 215547 to report it.”
