An East Lancs youngster has raised more than £200 for a charity after completing 50 walks.

Erin Avery, 12, was set a challenge by her maths teacher Mr Hartley along with other students to create and complete a fundraiser.

Erin, who attends Darwen Vale High School, decided to complete 50 walks in aid of Derian House, a children’s hospice based in Chorley.

Her 50th and final walk saw Erin walk from Darwen School of Kung-Fu, where she is also a student, to Darwen Tower, and she was joined by instructors and fellow students to mark the achievement.

Erin’s instructors Sian-Marie Garth and Raymond Heeks were invited to join Erin on the final walk because Raymond’s daughter used Derian House for a period of time before her sad death.

Pupils and staff at Darwen Vale have been raising funds for Derian House for years with annual sponsored physical challenges and have raised more than £50,000 in that time.
