A man has admitted to being a person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control which caused life-changing and catastrophic injuries to his next door neighbour.
Jacqueline McGrew was seriously injured when she was attacked by a crossbreed dog named Kia while delivering something to her neighbour David Wilson’s house in Devon Road, Blackburn on June 14 last year.
Following the attack, Ms McGrew was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious face and head injuries.
The dog, along with another was seized from its owners and an investigation was launched.
A police spokesperson said at the time: “We can confirm an investigation is underway after a pensioner was attacked and seriously injured during a dog attack in Blackburn.
“We were called around 2.30pm on Tuesday, June 14, following a report of assault.
“A woman aged in her 70s had been attacked by two dogs in the front garden of an address in Devon Road.
“The woman suffered serious head and facial injuries and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.
“The dogs, believed to be a pitbull-type breed, have been seized from their owner and an investigation is underway.”
Det Sgt Peter Davies, of Blackburn CID, added at the time: “We can confirm we are investigating a dog attack in Blackburn.
“The woman involved was believed to be a making a delivery to the address when she was attacked. She has suffered significant, life-changing injuries.
“Our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.
“The dogs involved have been seized and an investigation into the circumstances around the attack is underway.”
Today (Wednesday March 29), David Wilson, 57, of Devon Road, appeared at Burnley Magistrates’ Court where he was due to stand trial for the offence, however, he entered a guilty plea and will be sentenced at a later date.
It is believed the dog, Kia, has been voluntarily euthanised.
Wilson was given unconditional bail to appear back before the courts for sentencing on May 3.
