Today is national take a walk in the park day and Blackburn with Darwen has a wide range of walks for the family to enjoy.

Whether you want to take the children for a walk after school or you want a solo leisurely stroll, Blackburn with Darwen has many fantastic parks.

The Lancashire Telegraph has come up with a list of five of the best places to take a walk in the park.

Corporation Park, Blackburn

Close to the centre of Blackburn is Corporation Park, a traditional Victorian park which was landscaped by William Henderson in 1857.

This park is a beauty spot with lakes, wildlife and scenery and has plenty to enjoy on your stroll.

Within the park there are also many sports areas including three shale tennis courts, three all-weather courts, two multi use game areas, a cycle track, playgrounds - one formal, one natural, bowling greens and flat green grass areas.

Witton Country Park, Blackburn

Witton Park has grassland and woodland for visitors to explore on a morning stroll but also the River Darwen running through as well. The park is set in the countryside, west of Blackburn.

There are multiple walking routes in the beautiful park with the choice of going on lengthy walks or shorter walks.

The Witton Weavers Way is a 32 mile walk of discovery which can be completed in 2 days, although it is made up of four individual shorter walks.

Some of the walks includes The Beamers Trail which is six miles and The Reelers Trail which is 7.5 miles or for a shorter walk, try the Riverside Saunter which is one or two miles.

Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen

This is the perfect walk for families with attractions including a visitor centre, an art gallery and a series of wooden animal structures.

Sunnyhurst Wood is an 85-acre wooded valley, with footpaths leading onto Darwen moor up to Darwen Tower and Sunnyhurst Brook also flows through the wood.

With seven miles of footpaths in a glorious natural setting and is a great location for family walks and picnics.

Or why not go to the top of Darwen Tower today?

There are two walks for visitors to reach the top of the tower and once at the top visitors can see amazing panoramic views that make for great photographs.

It is the perfect place for a nice walk, to grab some exercise and to take in the wonderful views.
