A jury has been sent out to start deliberations as to whether two men standing trial for murder were involved in a botched hit that killed Aya Hachem.

Suhayl Suleman and Junior Louis Otway have been on trial for their alleged involvement in the murder of Aya Hachem and the attempted murder of Pachah Khan on May 17, 2020.

Suleman, of Shear Brow, Blackburn, and Junior Louis Otway, of Clitheroe Road, Manchester, have been on trial at Preston Crown Court since March 1.

A jury of 12 has been listening to evidence and has been sent out this morning (March 27) to consider whether they believe the pair are guilty.

Aya Hachem was walking along King Street, Blackburn, out buying food for her family during Ramadan.

As the 19-year-old law student walked by RI Tyres and Quickshine, she was hit by a stray bullet shot from a passing Toyota Avensis.

The bullet was shot by Zamir Raja as a result of a feud between the two neighbouring rival businesses, with the bullet intended for Pachah Khan.

Seven men, Feroz Suleman, Ayaz Hussain, Zamir Raja, Anthony Ennis, Kashif Manzoor, Uthman Satia and Abubakr Satia have already been found guilty of murder and attempted murder. Judy Chapman was found guilty of manslaughter.

The Right Honourable Justice Jacobs has given his summary of the evidence and jury directions.

The jury has been told they must reach a unanimous verdict.

Otway and Suleman deny murder and attempted murder.

The trial continues.
