A Blackburn rock band filmed and played a gig to 120 fans on a boat on the River Thames.
Medusa, a rock and punk band formed in Blackburn, held the gig on a 120-capacity party boat on the River Thames on February 13.
The gig was professionally filmed and will be released as a concert movie, however despite a year’s worth of planning, the band face a number of hiccups on the day.
Julian said: “I woke up at about 11.30pm the night before the concert and saw I had emails and messages on my phone from the sound engineer.
“He said his wife had a medical episode and that he had to cancel.
“I spent ages calling around studios to see if any of them could lend me equipment.
“It felt like we couldn’t get it sorted and we couldn’t move the gig as we only had the boat for a certain time – it had to go ahead.
“I reached out and a sound guy contacted me and started asking questions and said he could help.”
The band managed to work with the sound engineer and get all the equipment on the boat and set up in time for the morning gig.
Julian also said he had some issues with his guitar while checking the sound meaning the gig started a little late but this was luckily resolved quickly and the crowd made their way onto the boat, ready to enjoy two hours of live music.
Despite the rocky start, the gig went well and Julian said that the crowd ‘made the day’ with their outfits and how much they enjoyed the gig.
Julian added: “The gig was fantastic. We sold out of tickets and there were loads of people.
“They all dressed up too, most of our fans are also fans of punk music.
“People had their hair coloured, people had mohawks and they all loved the music.
“That will make a massive difference – everything could have gone right, we could have started on time and had the original sound engineer but the crowd could have been rubbish and that would have ruined it.
“They made the gig.”
Medusa, which was formed by former QEGS student Julian Molinero in 1998, has released four albums with the former producer of Nirvana.
The band, who are now based in London, played two sets to allow the camera crews to get enough angles for the live concert film, which Julian said will be feature film length.
The band has also had a camera crew filming in Blackburn for a documentary showing their history.
The film will include the former site of the Cellar Bar, now King's Hotel on King Street, where the band played its first gig in June 2000, just weeks after the band finished school in the town.
The documentary has also had footage filmed of Julian in New York City and Vancouver, Canada, where the band has previously played gigs.
The movie will be released in about six months time, with an official release date to be confirmed in the coming months.
