A Spitfire flypast has been confirmed at a popular event in East Lancashire.
The Supermarine Spitfire will fly over this summer's Accrington Food Festival at 1.40pm β the first time a flypast has been organised for the festival.
More Spitfires were built than any other British combat aircraft, and they were crucial in the British victory at the battle of Britain in 1940 during the Second World War.
They are now flown by the RAF Aircrew at special events, to promote the outstanding work of the RAF, promote our military history and commemorate those who fell in service.
The free food festival, which takes place on Saturday, June 3, is taking place in Accrington Town Centre, where the Broadway will be transformed into a street of international cuisine, while a regional and local food market will also be on show, offering local delicacies.
Accrington Market will also be hosting both an indoor and outdoor market for Hyndburn Independents, with visitors to the event encouraged to shop local.
Chair of Amazing Accrington, Murray Dawson said: "The Accrington Food Festival is one of the best events around.
"Every year I'm so excited to put the plans together, and securing a flypast really will be an absolute spectacle for everyone to enjoy.
"From putting on one of the best war re-enactments in the county, to offering a wide range of delicious foods and artisan stalls in our international, regional and local food markets, we've got something for everyone at this year's Food Festival and there will be plenty of exciting surprises to announce along the way too."
Managing director of North Lancs Training Group, one of the event's sponsors, Gareth Lindsay, added: "We're happy to support this great event and we will be there to see everyone enjoying themselves.
βThe Spitfire flypast will be a great addition this year, can't wait to see it.β
