The man behind YouTube sensation Rate My Takeaway visited two takeaway hotspots in Lancashire and reveals which meal was his favourite.
Danny Malin, a Barnsley social media influencer who has built a successful career through reviewing takeaways around the country, stopped off in Preston and Blackpool last week.
Coco’s Soul Food on Friargate in Preston city centre, was treated to a visit by Danny, two days after he tried the menu out at West Coast Rock Café in Abingdon Street, Blackpool.
Danny took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing on his days visiting Blackpool tower, the arcade and the promenade when he was a child, as he made his way to the Blackpool restaurant.
Once he arrived, he ordered the restaurant's famous King Kong Burger which comes with eight toppings, a side of chips, salad, and a secret homemade sauce, as well as a bottle of water and cheese and chilli nachos as a starter, which came to £24.70.
Rating the nachos starter, Danny said they weren’t bad “but not the best chilli I’ve had”. Moving onto the burger, skin on chips and special homemade sauce, the YouTube food critic wasn’t overly impressed with the meal, saying the meat tasted like it was from a butchers but the sausage was too undercooked for him and the bread “didn’t hold up”.
He added: “There’s probably a bit too much on that burger so you can’t eat it. Is it worth £24? I think it’s a bit much to be paying that kind of money.”
Danny gave West Rock Café an overall score of five but still encouraged his viewers to visit the restaurant.
Coco’s Soul Food had better luck with Danny’s scoring and was rated an impressive 10 out of 10. He ordered a chimichanga, Coco’s honey chilli sticky chicken wings and a portion of the tropical mango chilli chicken with rice which totalled £23.50.
Rating the wings, he said: “They are sweet with a little bit of a kick to them. It just falls of the bone, full of flavour, they’re soul food. I like them, they make me feel good.”
The chimichanga, or “little piece of joy” as Danny put it, made the YouTuber feel like he was in the heart of Mexico with the amount of flavours in the dish. Despite being slightly sceptical mixing mango and chicken, Danny couldn’t fault the meal and added it made his “tastebuds fall off”.
Overall, Coco’s Soul Food received a perfect score and big smiles from Danny.
Danny has also visited two East Lancashire takeaways, The Fuzzy Duck in Read, and The Pit Stop Café in Clitheroe where he gave glowing reviews to the local businesses.
