Six people took part in a sponsored bike ride in memory of a mother and charity fundraiser, who died aged 85.

Ann, Brian and Claire Gawthorpe, Darren Leslie Roberts, Claire Jones and Jackie Shaw rode from Blackpool to Clitheroe to raise money in memory of Ann’s mother, Hazel Gudgeon, who died in September.

The group took on the 34-and-a-half-mile ride on Saturday, March 18. The final total has not yet been confirmed but the group believe they have raised about £1,500.

The money will help pay for a defibrillator outside the Dog and Partridge in Wellgate, Clitheroe.

The group started by Blackpool Tower and finished the ride at the pub in Clitheroe.

Ann, 56, said: “My mum did a lot for charities in her life, doing lots of things because my brother was on dialysis.

“When she passed away, we said we had to do something for charity.

“The town was already wanting to raise money for a defibrillator and my sister works for the pub so asked if we wanted to help raise money for that.”

Hazel raised money for the British Kidney Patient’s charity after her son and Ann’s brother, Alan Gudgeon, died after getting kidney disease.

The group were followed along the route by support vehicle driver Ian Pedel.

Any money raised above the cost of the defibrillator will be used to support the British Heart Foundation.

The group have asked that, should anyone wish to donate to the British Heart Foundation, that they leave their donation at the Clitheroe Health Centre.
