Four people have been arrested as part of a crackdown on violent disorder.

Police were called at about 10pm on Thursday (March 16) after receiving reports a car had been set alight outside an address on Southfleet Avenue in Fleetwood.

Officers also received a report of disorder on Brook Street earlier in the evening.

Following the incidents police launched an operation targeting criminality in the town, making several arrests.

Ch Supt Karen Edwards, Lancashire Police’s West Divisional Commander, said: “The recent disorder in Fleetwood is completely unacceptable and will simply not be tolerated.

“The vast majority of residents are decent, hard-working people. The actions of a few criminals on this occasion could cause significant concern for our wider community.

“We won’t allow this abhorrent criminality to continue. Since Thursday, you will have seen a marked increase in our police presence.

“We hope this reassures the community and demonstrates our commitment to investigate criminality and take positive action against those who commit offences.”

Enquiries into the incidents on Southfleet Avenue and Brook Street are continuing.

As part of the operation four people have been arrested by officers in connection with other matters.

Officers executed a warrant at an address in Poulton Road following the disorder. A quantity of suspected class B drugs was found inside.

Wesley Austin, 29, of Lindel Road, Fleetwood, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply class B drugs. He was due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday, March 20).

On Wednesday (March 15) police received a report that a man had been assaulted in Addison Road.

Levi Granger, 27, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault. He was due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

An 18-year-old man and 15-year-old boy, both from Fleetwood, were arrested on suspicion of burglary in connection with the theft of a motorbike on Wednesday. Both have been bailed to June 9.

Ch Supt Edwards added: “You will continue to see increased patrols in Fleetwood this week. Police and partners will work together and take action against those committing crime in the town.

“We will not tolerate violence and will support the community by taking offenders off the streets. We will also ensure a full range of police and civil powers are used to keep our communities safe.
