A 66-bedroom care home with a cinema, library and hairdressers could be built in a small village.
A planning application has been submitted to build the care facility for older people in Barrow, off Whalley Road.
The facility will care for local people, or those with local connections, and provide general care and dementia care.
A document from the planning application reads: “The proposals will allow the site to make an important contribution towards an identified need for new care accommodation and provide general residential and dementia care.
“It will be made available for local people in need of care and staffed by local people, in a highly appropriate, sustainable and accessible location.
“The proposed development is intended to be delivered and ready for occupation within 16 months of any planning permission being granted.”
The facility will include single-room accommodation for each resident with en-suite wet room facilities.
There will be communal spaces including cafes, dining rooms, quiet lounges and family rooms, a library, a garden room, a cinema and hairdressers.
The report said: “The layout provides a central hub, that is easily accessible from all areas of the care home.
“The building is positioned to allow communal areas to maximise the views of the surrounding landscape, whilst benefiting from good privacy and amenity.
“The care home will benefit from high-quality landscaping at the front and rear of the development, providing an attractive setting surrounding the development.”
There would also be 25 parking spaces, including three accessible bays and six electric vehicle charging point bays, eight cycle spaces, and an ambulance and taxi drop off area.
The two-storey building will also be eco-friendly, with plans for solar panels to be installed on the roof.
The application also seeks permission for the demolition and rebuilding of three properties, the former La Taverna restaurant and numbers 23 and 25 which are derelict.
In March 2021, the site was granted planning permission for a 23-home housing development.
Local residents have been given until March 31 to share their opinion of the application.
