TWO Tory politicians have highlighted the state of potholed streets on the outskirts of a town centre.
Barnfield ward Hyndburn Borough Council local election candidate Shahed Mahmood joined Accrington South Lancashire county councillor Terry Hurn to examine the road surface on Barnfield Street in Accrington
They are to raise the issue with the two authorities.
The two Conservatives met with residents on Barnfield Street off Sandy Lane opposite Accrington and Rossendale College to discuss the pothole problem which also affects nearby Abbey Street and Royds Street.
They watched a bus carefully negotiating the potholes in Barnfield Street.
Mr Mahmood said: "The roads are in a really bad state.
"The bus was going very slow on the broken road. This has been the situation for the last five years and nothing has been done.
"We discussed how Lancashire County council can help and also how Hyndburn Borough Council can address this. The residents were very upset
"I will work with County Cllr Hurn and Hyndburn Borough Council to look into a plan of what can be done over the next 12 months."
County Cllr Hurn, who also represents Baxenden on the borough council, said: "We need to bring these serious problems to the forefront so we can continue to fight for the area."
