A Lancashire town has been named among the most popular domestic destinations for Spring 2023 in Tripadvisor’s first Seasonal Travel Index of 2023.
The index uses a combination of demand and sentiment data to reveal Brits’ attitudes to travel over the next three months and highlights top and trending destinations for Spring 2023.
Blackpool was named among the most popular domestic destinations to travel to and sits in 5th place.
As the summer gets closer, Tripadvisor found that travel is rising with almost three quarters (71%) of Brits planning trips this Spring, compared to just over half (54%) in the same period last year.
North of England proves to be popular travel destination this Spring
The North of England is the top trending domestic travel destination for Brits this Spring including the Lake District which continues to be a hot spot for British holidaymakers staying closer to home, with almost half of the top 10 fastest growing domestic destinations located there, including Gosforth which takes the number one spot.
It has jumped from 9th place in Tripadvisor’s Winter index in December.
Coastal breaks are also popular, with seaside towns making up almost half of the list, including Guernsey and Isle of Man.
This also represents an increase of 11% on the Winter season (December 2022-February 2023).
Most popular Spring travel destinations revealed by Tripadvisor
The index highlighted Paris as the number one international city break with Amsterdam following in second place.
Spanish beach holidays proved popular too with Benidorm and Costa Adeje, Tenerife coming in third and fourth place respectively.
London won the top spot for UK destinations as it was named the most popular this Spring.
It was followed by Edinburgh in second place and Liverpool in third place.

The research revealed the top 10 most popular domestic destinations for Spring, here they are:

- Birmingham
The research also outlined the 10 fastest most popular destinations, the 10 fastest growing domestic destinations as well as the 10 fastest growing international destinations.
Alice Jong, Research and Insights Senior Analyst, Media at Tripadvisor, said: “As seen in previous editions of our Seasonal Travel Index, consumer appetite for travel remains strong as we head into the spring months in the Northern Hemisphere.
“Destination-wise, we can expect robust demand for city breaks from Northern Hemisphere travellers, with several of the world’s most iconic capitals dominating the list of most popular destinations.”
The data was gathered and analysed from two sources, one being a Tripadvisor Consumer Sentiment Survey based on data drawn from an online survey of over 2,100 consumers, in partnership with Qualtrics, conducted between 1/8/23 and 1/20/23 across five countries (U.S., UK, Australia, Singapore and Japan).
The other source was site behavioural data sourced from first party traffic data on the Tripadvisor platform, gathered between December 01, 2022 and January 25, 2023, for searches made by travellers in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Japan and Singapore for travel between March 1 through May 31, 2023.
