Blackburn is one of the most boxing-obsessed areas in the UK, a study claims.
Figures from findbettingsites.co.uk reveal that Blackburn is the sixth most boxing obsessed area.
The study reveals Blackburn is the sixth most obsessed with boxing, with 2,450 searches per 100,000 people.
Landing in the top ten in the study, Blackburn beats major UK cities including London.
Liverpool topped the study as the most obsessed with boxing, with 3,426 online searches per 100,000 people per month- a total of 16,600 per month.
Whilst another Lancashire area, Preston, places second with 2,676 searches per 100,000 people- despite having a significantly smaller population than Liverpool and Birmingham.
The research by betting sites comparison site findbettingsites.co.uk analysed 60 major UK areas based on the number of times each city Google’s search terms related to an interest in boxing.
Twenty-four relevant search terms were used in the study, such as “boxing”, “boxing news” “boxing classes near me”, “boxing schedule”, “train for a boxing match” and “jake paul vs tommy fury”.
The number of searches for each term was then added up to give a total of searches.
This was then compared to the population to calculate how many searches per 100,000 people.
In Blackburn, the highest search term in the study is “boxing news” receiving 1000 monthly searches.
A spokesperson person at findbettingsites.co.uk said: “Omar Dusary is one of Blackburn’s well-known fighters, competing as a Super flyweight facing big names like Anthony Joshua.
“Boxing has long been a British obsession, and it is no surprise the country shows such high levels of interest.
“Boxing continues to generate social media attention. The term “boxing” itself is searched on Google an average of 185,000 times a month in the UK, whilst #boxingfight boasting 91.1 million views on TikTok.”
