A food reviewer and blogger from East Lancashire, known for his pie reviews, has revealed the flavours and brands in the county that you need to try.

Today (March 6) marks the start of British Pie Week and Padiham man Steve Hallam is the man to speak to when it comes to all things pies in East Lancashire.

Steve Hallam, who runs Facebook page Steve’s Food Adventures, has reviewed an array of food on his page including sausages, cheese and beyond.

He has even started reviewing posh restaurants and is set to critique burger vans in the region in the coming weeks.

The 53-year-old said: “The Facebook page started off as something to do during lockdown. I am passionate about food and would describe myself as a ‘foodie’.

“I especially like local foods and finding local farms and bakeries that are making their own products.

“Through my page I recommend new places and showcase the best the area has to offer.

“It’s a bit tricky reviewing food now though as I am on Slimming World.”

Pies hold a special place in Steve’s heart and he has tried both traditional and new flavours that are produced in Lancashire.

He said: “There is always something new and that’s the best thing about pies. They’re self-contained little bundles of joy.

“There are plenty of traditional flavours as well as new ones that are coming out every day - I’ve even tried a chicken bhuna pie.”

Steve also has a passion for rural photography and likes to take snaps of the pies in scenic locations.

He said: “The pictures are tongue in cheek and it’s just showing my sense of humour.

“I call the photography series ‘pies in nature’. When I was interviewed for a radio show they called the pictures ‘pie porn’.”

Most recently he took a 'bene ‘n’ hotpot’ pie to a picturesque field in East Lancashire with animals grazing in the background.

When asked about his favourite pie flavours and brands in the region Steve had a few recommendations.

He said: “It’s so hard to narrow it down as there are so many different varieties and it depends on the pie flavour.

“If we were in Rossendale I would go to Cissy Greens in Haslingden, they’re fantastic.

“I love Haffners, they do a great chicken curry pie.

“Roy Porter Butchers in Chatburn do a fantastic lamb mince and apple – that one is gorgeous.

“A very underated pie is the traditional pork pie or meat pie, but get a good one. Don’t get them from a supermarket, go to your local butchers.”

Steve is planning to take his food blog overseas in the coming weeks and will review speciality dishes while abroad.

Keep up-to-date with Steve’s food reviews on his YouTube and Facebook accounts, both called Steve’s Food Adventures.
