TRIBUTES have been paid to a former magistrate, who has died.
Mary Lord, from Mapleford Nursing Home in Huncoat, died on February 24.
The 89-year-old began her life working at Naylors Printers in Church, where she remained for a short time before moving to the TSB Bank in Accrington, where she trained as clerk and worked there for many years.
She then moved to St Mary’s School, Clayton-le-Moors, taking up the role of school secretary and worked there for more than 10 years up to her retirement.
Mary had many interests including being a magistrate serving in Accrington.
She was also the first lady chairperson of the Walshingham Association.
She was very interested in local history and ran a heritage group from St Joseph’s Church in Accrington.
She enjoyed fell walking with her late husband Michael.
Mary was a lifelong member of St Annes, St Marys in Clayton-le-Moors and St Josephs Catholic Churches all in the Hyndburn area.
She enjoyed foreign holidays including trips to Rome and Austria.
She was very keen on classical music and visits to the theatre.
Mary liked watching cricket and followed Accrington Cricket Club.
She was the beloved wife of the late Michael, dear sister of the late Peter and dear sister-in-law of Margaret.
She was a much-loved auntie and good friend to all that knew her.
Requiem mass is taking place on March 10 at 10am at St Joseph’s RC Church in Accrington, followed by internment at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road, in Accrington.
Family flowers only but donations can be made to St Joseph’s RC Church, care of Hyndburn Funeral Services on Queens Road in Accrington.
