An Indian street food café and bistro is set to open in Great Harwood next month.
Akela Street Food is set to open at the former Finch Bakery site in Queen Street on Saturday, March 25.
The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she can’t wait to open and will be cooking dishes from her childhood.
The 33-year-old said: “Growing up my dad used to cook authentic Indian street food.
“I went to Mowgli restaurant in Manchester, which serves Indian street food, and my son and I absolutely loved it and thought it was a great idea.
“That’s when I decided to get my old cook books out from my childhood and started cooking again. That’s when Akela was born.
“You don’t see many street food places around the town. This is a place where you can dine in and enjoy a full on street food experience.”
Small dishes will be served at Akela Street Food with gunpowder chicken, roti, masala wraps and more.
Sweet treats, such as spiced custard tart, will also be available.
The owner, who lives in Great Harwood, said: “We are selling little dishes of food so you can enjoy a really good mix of Indian street food.
“We recommend getting two to three per person. You can mix and match with your friends so you can try a bit of everything.”
The mum-of-three said she can’t wait to open next month.
She said: “We are looking forward to opening and work has already started. Hopefully it will all come together – it’s a labour of love.
“I have always loved cooking and baking. I have always had these business ideas but never followed through with any of them.
“I decided I wasn’t going to let this one go. Now is my chance.”
