The famous Flying Scotsman train will be steaming through East Lancashire today on its 100th birthday.

Today (February 24) marks 100 years of the steam locomotive took to the tracks and it has become one of the most well-known trains in the world.

People flock to train stations and bridges to just get a glance at the famous locomotive when it comes to town.

The train is taking a long route through the country today, starting in Edinburgh and ending in Bury.

The train will pass Pleasington at 9.50pm, Cherry Tree at 9.51pm, Mill Hill at 9.53pm and Blackburn at 9.55pm where the service stops for pathing.

From there, the locomotive will head for Daisyfield Junction at 10.28pm, Rishton at 10.31pm, Church and Oswaldtwistle at 10.33pm and Accrington at 10.35pm.

The train will continue on the line to Huncoat at 10.39pm, Hapton at 10.42pm, Rose Grove West Junction 10.45pm, Rose Grove at 10.46pm, Gannow Junction at 10.48pm and Burnley Manchester Road at 10.49pm.

To celebrate the centenary, special £2 coins of the Scotsman are being launched by the Royal Mint.

Some versions of the coin depict the famous steam locomotive in colour and the edge inscription on the coins reads: "Live for the journey".

Flying Scotsman was built in Doncaster in 1923 and is synonymous with the golden age of rail travel.
