Burnley radio presenter Jordan North said he was suspended from one of his early radio jobs after he reportedly turned up to work drunk, missing part of his shift.
Speaking on his podcast ‘Help I Sexted My Boss’, which he co-hosts with William Hanson, Jordan said he nearly lost his job at Rock FM after going clubbing hours before his morning shift.
Jordan, who now works with BBC Radio One, said: “I was in my early 20s and I was trying to balance a career in radio and still go out on the p*** with my mates.
“I used to do weekend breakfast which meant I was on the radio at 6am on Saturday and Sunday.”
On Friday night Jordan was at Lava Ignite nightclub in Preston, which is now closed, but didn’t make it home.
He said: “It’s 4am, and I was thinking ‘I am on air in two hours and I’m absolutely steaming’.
“I walked from Lava Ignite to Rock FM. I asked my mate not to let me fall asleep as I has missed a show the weekend before.
“I made myself a strong coffee. As the kettle was boiling I nodded off on the settee.”
His friend woke him up but Jordan’s shift had already started.
He said: My mate wakes me up and tells me I was meant to be on in half an hour.
“I was half an hour late – he thought I was on at seven and I was on at six so I missed the first half hour of the show and the backup tape was playing.”
Jordan thought he had managed to get away with the blunder until his boss called him in for questioning.
Jordan reportedly told his boss that his taxi turn up and that he had forgotten his fob to get in the building.
He said: “My boss picked up a remote control and pressed play on CCTV and you can see [me] waddling in…. you can see me asleep on the settee.
“The boss suspended me for two weeks. I thought I was going to be sacked.
“When I was called back in my boss told me he had never heard of me before but that he has listened to my shows and had enjoyed them.
“Two weeks later I was given the drivetime show.”
Jordan was appointed as the drive time presenter for Lancashire in 2014.
After taking on some freelance work for BBC Radio 5Live, he joined BBC Radio 1 in 2018.
Jordan and etiquette expert William Hanson are set to publish their book, described as an “essential Help I Sexted My Boss handbook”, this autumn.
In the book, the duo are set to solve our solve our 21st century dilemmas in this “witty guide” to avoiding awkward moments.
From dinner parties to picky teas, first dates to flat mate dramas, this book draws on William’s encyclopedic knowledge of manners and Jordan’s down to earth honesty to help navigate modern life.
