AN Industrial Revolution folly' in Stubbins has be-come a target for vandals and intruders.
The Victorian grade II listed Tentering Tower, on Stubbins Lane, has become a health and safety concern for owners the National Trust.
It was once used to stretch and dry textiles from a nearby mill.
A spokesman said in a report to Rossendale Council: "The remains of the building are of some character and are being structurally maintained.
"There are issues how-ever of undesirable use and access to the struc-ture which raise public health and safety issues."
Plans have been drawn by the trust to fit gates and railings to openings to prevent vandalism or trespassers.
"The intention is to make the structure secure in a way that deters undesirable access and discourages accidents while at the same time not detracting from the building."
Structural work is being undertaken on the tower to ensure it is stabilised and preserved, under separate schemes.
