A motor fuel group has applied to demolish a car wash and replace it with electric vehicle charging points.
Motor Fuel Group has lodged an application with Hyndburn Council to demolish the car wash at the Texaco Accrington Service Station on Hyndburn Road and create an EV charging zone as well as a canopy, substation enclosure and one jet wash bay.
A statement submitted alongside the application reads: “Motor Fuel Group is the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator with more than 900 sites offering a dualfuel strategy, convenient retail and ‘food to go’.
“To help the UK reach carbon neutral, Motor Fuel Group are looking to roll-out an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing and new service stations to diversity their existing offer, with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge a vehicle as re-fuelling with petrol or diesel.
“The aspiration of Motor Fuel Group is to provide access to convenient and affordable charging, regardless of where the driver lives.
“The Accrington Service Station proposals relate to the provision of four electric vehicle charging points, canopy, substation enclosure, one jet wash bay and associated forecourt works.
“The proposals will enhance the existing offer at the service station without compromising the efficient operation of the facility.”
A decision will be made by the council in due course.
