A Lancashire town has been named among the areas with the worst drivers in the UK.

New research from Moneybarn has analysed government data on road deaths and accidents, as well as the number of speeding fines handed out in each local authority area, to reveal the UK areas with the worst drivers.

Blackpool featured in the top 10 list in third place with 23.9 accidents per 10,000 people.

The seaside town’s worst driver score is 2.12 out of 10.

Here’s the list of local authorities with the worst drivers along with the 5-year change in casualties (%), casualties per 10,000 people, 5-year change in accidents (%), accidents per 10,000 people, speeding offences per 100,000 people and worst driver score (scored out of 10).

The research also found that Swansea is home to the UK’s best drivers with 1.5 casualties per 10,000 people and 2.57 speeding offences per 10,000 people.

London is home to the UK’s deadliest drivers, according to the research, with 35.66 road deaths or serious injuries per 10,000 people.

Three London boroughs were also revealed to be the UK’s road accident hotspots, with the City of London, Westminster & Kensington and Chelsea making the top three.

Bath and North-East Somerset are home to the UK’s safest drivers with just 0.92 road deaths or serious injuries per 10,000 people.
