A former Blackburn student who went on to start his own music marketing company has had further success after going onto BBC One show Dragons’ Den.
Alex Brees, 32, attended secondary school and sixth form at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School between 2001 and 2009.
He went on to study physiology at the University of Liverpool, and it was at university where he started DJing under the name Breesbox.
Having performed at various venues in Liverpool and down in London, Alex got a foot in the door of the music industry and used that knowledge to create Unherd (styled un:herd).
The company provides a data-led marketing service to artists from around the world, including Headie One, Pendulum, SAINt JHN and more.
The business, which launched in 2019, says its goal is to provide marketing support and opportunities for artists that would help them frow and develop whilst maintaining ownership of their music and content.
In a bid to take the company to the next level, Alex took the business to Dragons’ Den and managed to persuade three of the dragons to invest.
A spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Grammar School said: “From everyone here at QEGS, congratulations!
"This is a fantastic achievement and we wish you all the very best for the future!”
Alex’s episode of Dragons’ Den will air on Thursday, February 16, on BBC One.
