A man has died following a serious crash which closed a main road for several hours.
Emergency services were called around 5.35am to the A59 close to BAE yesterday (Friday February 3) after receiving reports of a two vehicle crash between a Ford Focus and a Citroen Dispatch.
A man in his 50s, from Burnley, who had been driving the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 30s, from Blackburn, suffered minor injuries.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on Friday, February 3.
"We were called around 5.35am to the A59 Myerscough Smithy Road, close to BAE Samlesbury, after a report of a two-vehicle collision between a Ford Focus car and a Citroen Dispatch van.
"Emergency services attended with a man in his 50s from Burnley, the driver of the Ford, found unresponsive. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
"The driver of the van, a man in his 30s from Blackburn, suffered minor injuries.
"We are appealing for witnesses and urging anyone with dashboard mounted camera footage to come forward."
The A59 was closed for several hours while police and other emergency services dealt with the incident.
It was reopened around 2pm.
Sgt Daniel Gunn, of Lancashire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “These are very sad and tragic circumstances and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.
“We are appealing for information and urging any witnesses, who have yet to speak to police, to come forward.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage of the incident.
