The number of crimes committed in Blackburn with Darwen in December 2022 has been revealed.

Data from police.uk shows 1,349 crimes were committed in the borough in the final month of 2022, ranging from burglary to anti-social behaviour to weapon possession.

This is an 11.5 per cent decrease on the total number of crimes for the month previous, which was 1,525.

Using the data, we were also able to map exactly where each crime took place within the borough and calculate how many instances of each crime there was.

Of the 14 crimes listed in the data, only two saw increases between November and December.

Robbery went up by 75 per cent, going from four to in November to seven in December.

Burglary also increased by 5.88 per cent, going from 51 to 54.

All the other crimes decreased in December as follows:

  • Public order – 71 (Nov) – 68 (Dec) – down 4.22 per cent
  • Shoplifting – 90 (Nov) – 67 (Dec) – down 25.55 per cent
  • Vehicle crime – 78 (Nov) – 67 (Dec) – down 14.10 per cent
  • Drugs – 26 (Nov) – 18 (Dec) – down 30.7 per cent
  • Other crime – 28 (Nov) – 17 (Dec) – down 39.2 per cent
  • Possession of weapons – 10 (Nov) – 8 (Dec) – down 20 per cent
  • Theft from person – 6 (Nov) – 5 (Dec) – down 16.6 per cent
  • Bike theft – 9 (Nov) – 4 (Dec) – down 55.55 per cent

The same pattern was followed in four of the remaining five East Lancs boroughs.

Burnley’s crime rate dropped by 9.6 per cent, Pendle by 13.75 per cent, Hyndburn by 15.87 per cent and Ribble Valley by 5.53 per cent. Rossendale stayed the same, with 478 crimes recorded in both November and December.
