A woman will become the first person to run the London Marathon in aid of an Accrington charity when she tackles the race later this year.
Kirsten Burnett, who works as head of policy at Hyndburn Borough Council, will take on the marathon in the capital to raise funds for Maundy Relief, as part of its ‘Do it for Maundy’ fundraising campaign.

The charity is hoping to raise £25,000 to mark its 25th anniversary and ensure work to support people living in poverty in Hyndburn can continue for as long as it is needed.
Kirsten is no stranger to marathons, having run 14 in the last 10 years, and this one will take place on her 50th birthday on April 23.
Kirsten said: “I love running, it keeps me fit and sane and I’ve always wanted to do the London Marathon.
"When I saw Maundy Relief were encouraging people to do a challenge and raise funds to support people in need in Hyndburn, I thought why not?
“The fact the event is on my birthday is the icing on the cake! I’m back in training and I can’t wait for the event.”

Beccy Murrell, operations manager at Maundy Relief, said: “We are so excited that Kirsten is doing this challenge in aid of Maundy Relief – it’s the first time we’ve had a runner in the London Marathon and we’ll be cheering her on every step of the way.”
