A high school has been told by a watchdog it could no longer be ‘good’ if they were to have a new inspection.
All Saints’ Roman Catholic High School, in Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, was visited by Ofsted and remained good, however this was an ‘ungraded inspection’.
Inspectors noted evidence would suggest should the school be inspected in full at this moment, the grade ‘may not be as high’, stating the next inspection of the school will be a graded inspection.
Leaders are ‘aspirational’ for pupils and have planned out a carefully considered curriculum however, in some subjects, leaders’ work to improve the curriculum is at an earlier stage.
This means that in these subjects, teachers are less clear about what content to teach and when they should teach it.
Inspectors also noted that in key stage four, pupils have a wide range of academic and vocational courses available.
The report said: “Some pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who are disadvantaged, do not achieve as well as they should.
“This is because they have not secured a firm foundation of knowledge by the end of key stage 3.
“This means that some pupils are not fully prepared for the demands of key stage 4.”
In most situations, strategies are used to check on pupils learning, with staff working successfully to address gaps in pupils’ knowledge.
The provision for pupils with SEND is good with leaders providing detailed information about the needs of these pupils.
The report adds: “This is helping teachers to successfully adapt the delivery of the curriculum for pupils with SEND.
“However, pupils with SEND are subject to the same curriculum weaknesses as their peers.”
Inspectors said that some children have fallen behind in their reading which has led them to fall behind in their other subjects.
Improvements have been made for attendance rates of some pupils however, others do not attend school as regularly as they should
Pupils are given rewards to recognise achievement and benefit from an extensive programme of careers education, helping them make informed decisions about their futures.
Safeguarding arrangements are effective.
