An East Lancashire medic, who is a resident doctor on ITV’s This Morning, has written a book that explains everything kids need to know about puberty.
'You Grow Girl!: The No Worries Guide to Growing Up' has been written by Burnley's Dr Zoe Williams and will be published this summer.
It is described as a modern growing up guide that discusses everything from periods and breast changes to hormones and body hair.
Whatever changes girls are going through, it's hoped that the book will help them feel confident, informed, and positive.
Zoe explores everything from mental health and healthy relationships to hobbies and self-care, to help readers aged nine and up discover the confidence to grow up to be the very best version of themselves.
Dr Zoe Williams said: “Growing up was a challenging time for me, as it is for so many girls.
"I hope that this book provides the information, guidance, and practical tips and activities to guide girls through puberty and support them to be confident, self-assured and above all else empowered.
“We live in a modern world where young people have access to unlimited, uncensored information, so I think it is important for girls to have a resource which is honest, accurate and provides sensible and safe advice.
“Hopefully my own anecdotes will add some mild humour and show that you can succeed in life against all odds.”
Laura Horsley, publishing director at Hachette Children’s Group, added: “It is such a joy to be working with Dr Zoe Williams on You Grow Girl!
“Zoe has created a fantastic myth-busting and energising puberty book for modern girls everywhere.
“Taking a holistic approach to health, from understanding hormones and periods, to growing your confidence, the importance of physical exercise and navigating unhealthy relationships, readers will leave equipped with the knowledge they need to ride out their teen years and armed with the life lessons for thriving in adulthood.”
Dr Zoe Williams graduated from medical school in 2007. She has gained experience in many specialist fields within medicine and currently practices as an NHS General Practitioner in London.
Zoe is one of the resident doctors on ITV’s This Morning, and has featured as an expert on the BBC’s The One Show, Horizon and Trust Me I’m a Doctor.
She specialises in debunking the confusing world of medicine, in a fun and entertaining way.
Zoe founded the charity Fit4Life, which aims to increase the aspirations of young people by providing mentors and co-creating physical activity programmes with them.
As one of the countries most valued professionals in lifestyle medicine and physical activity, Zoe’s expertise has seen her working as an advisor to Public Health England, the NHS, the Royal College of GPs as well as some of the UK’s largest brands, including Waitrose, Garmin, Estee Lauder, Elastoplast and Tesco.
The book, which is the girls companion guide to Dr Ranj’s ‘How to Grow Up’, will be available to buy in June.
