ONE of the perks of becoming Blackburn Rovers record signing was getting a free car into the bargain.
Alan Shearer who had signed from Southampton for £3.6million in July 1992 was at Blackburn motor dealers Arlington’s less than a month later to pick up a new Rover 220.
He was presented with the keys by Bill Rostron and Steve Petty from the dealership.
It’s a far cry from today’s Premier League star who drive around in Range Rovers, Mercedes and even Ferraris, but the star striker seemed pretty pleased with his ‘company car’.
