A four-car crash is causing congestion on the M65 this morning.

The incident, which is believed to have happened between junctions four and three westbound has resulted in queueing traffic.

The crash was first reported around 7.50am and there are severe delays of around 12 minutes on the westbound carriageway of the M65. 

According to the AA the average speed is around 10mph.

A police spokesperson said: "The call to us came at 7.46am.

"Four vehicles are involved on the westbound carriageway.

"At the moment it is showing as damage only but an ambulance has attended."

The AA wesbite stated: "Crash, restrictions, queueing traffic.

"Restrictions and queueing traffic due to crash on M65 Westbound from J4 A666 Earcroft Way (Darwen/Blackburn South) to J3 A674 Chorley Road (Blackburn West/Wheelton/Walton).

"Severe delays of twelve minutes and delays easing on M65 Westbound between J4 A666 Earcroft Way (Darwe/Blackburn South) and J3 A674 Chorley Road (Blackburn West/Wheelton/Walton).

"Average speed ten mph."
