Beer connoisseur and passionate pub campaigner, Mark gives us his decision on the tastiest beer he has sampled in the last seven days.
This week’s outstanding beer came courtesy of the Rochdale based brewery, Pictish. Their cask ales are always a welcome sight on the bar. Although, I would like to see their fine beers more available in the locality.
Their single-hop ale, Azacca, was one I managed to hunt down at The Royal, in Great Harwood. The friendly , welcoming Hyndburn pub has Pictish beers on permanently.
Azacca is a dark golden beer with a fluffy white head. It boasted a refreshingly strong aroma of tropical and citrus fruit.
The crisp, bittersweet taste had more tropical fruit and citrus notes. It was filled with juicy pineapple, mango and grapefruit flavours. I also identified a hint of pine and some spicy warmth.
More of the same tropical and citrus fruits was identified in the lingering, drying, bittersweet and soft, warming finish.
A delicious, spritzy, full-flavoured beer in exceptional condition. A beverage that tingled the taste buds.
