Motorists in Lancashire have been warned to drive carefully this morning (January 16) as the Met Office issues a weather warning for ice.

There may also be some snow showers in parts of the region this morning.

The yellow weather warning covers the whole of Lancashire and other parts of the north and is in place until 10am.

The national weather services has also warned of possible snow flurries in parts of the north west and say the icy conditions could brin travel disruption.

There may also be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces. There might be some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Snow is forecast for some parts of the region this morning, including Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle and Rossendale where it is set to snow between 8am and 10am.

The Chief Forecaster said: "Snow showers will become more frequent through Monday, continuing to feed in on northwesterly winds overnight.

"Accumulations of a couple of centimetres are possible at low levels, with higher ground expected to see five to 10cm in places. In addition, icy stretches are likely to form following showers."

In Blackburn with Darwen and the Ribble Valley it is not forecast to snow but temperatures are set to remain low dipping to -2°C.
