An Oswaldtwistle pub said their £1 dinners went down a storm, helping them raise hundreds for charity while also feeding those struggling with the cost of living crisis.
The Rhoden Inn, on Roe Greave Road, sold £1 dinners across four evenings last week.
The bargain meals were available for everyone, but aimed at parents working long hours or those struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Bethany Lancaster, who manages the pub with Damian Hodgson, said the meals were incredibly popular often selling out within the first hour.
She said they managed to sell around 60 meals a night.
Bethany said: “The food was a sell-out every day often selling out within the first hour.
“Everybody just piled through at around 6pm. It was brilliant.”
Bethany said she had a range of customers through the door, from regulars to those struggling with the current troubling financial times.
She said: “We saw a complete range of people from regulars to new customers.
“Quite a few people came in and said this deal helped them so much in midst of the cost of living crisis.
“Some were joking around saying they had saved £60 on their food shop because of it.
“It was such a fulfilling and proud moment for the pub.
“The customers loved the food and thought it was a great idea. There wasn’t one bit of negative feedback.”
While the final figure has not yet been calculates, Bethany estimates that they have raised around £300 with the meals alone.
The funds raised will be split between Blackburn homeless charity, Nightsafe, and a day trip for dementia sufferers at Burrswood House Nursing Home in Bury who will be invited to the pub for tea and coffee.
After the scheme’s success, Bethany said she is considering bringing it back in the future.
She said: “I was raised in The Golden Cross, in Oswaldtwistle, when I was younger and they used to do 99p meals.
"I wanted to take a step back in time and bring this scheme back.
“I want to thank everybody who supported the scheme. By coming in and purchasing the meals you have donated to charity and helped many others.
“Helping each other out, that’s what life is all about.”
