A young entrepreneurial celebrity from Clitheroe has teamed up with a famous Yorkshire YouTube star to review the East Lancs’ lad favourite café.
Alfie Cookson, also known as ‘The Odd Job Boy’, shot to fame after he left school in 2014 and decided to set up his own business doing odd jobs around his hometown on a tandem pushbike.
After gracing our screens in a short film for BBC Three, and an hour-long feature film following Alfie’s antics, the Clitheroe lad has made his latest feature in a YouTube collaboration with Danny Malin – the beloved Barnsley star behind the Rate My Takeaway channel.
In a new video titled ‘Trying a Wigan Kebab with Alfie Odd Job’, Danny met Alfie in his hometown and between tucking into a hearty Northern meal, and making up catchy songs with each other, Alfie delved into how he began his career.
He said: “I thought if I set up on a business on my own, I can get my own bike, I can get up when I want, I can have my dinner when I want and just be a bit more free and live my life how I want to.
“I tried it, and it worked for me. I take each day as it comes and live my life like that. It was just word of mouth.
“I’m wise with my money, I don’t make a lot at all – just enough to get by. Money is not a huge thing for me. As long as I’ve my family and I’ve got my hobbies and whatever I want to do. The main thing is if I can get a beer from the shop, I can’t complain, can I?”
In the video, Alfie introduces Danny to Pit Stop Café to try the Northern ‘pie butty’ classic also known as a Wigan Kebab which, much to Alfie’s surprise, Danny confessed to having never tried before.
Reviewing the butty, Danny says: “It is a sloppy one isn’t it. It’s a nice tasting pie that, nice bit of pastry crust. It’s a nice messy dinner and I’ve never had a pie like that – it’s beautiful.”
Alfie, whose mum owns Pit Stop Café, added: “I have this a lot but for me, this is when I’m in my element. This is better than a roast dinner for me, it’s like a dinner in itself.”
Unsurprisingly, Alfie’s rating of the pie butty was a high 9.5 out of 10 with Danny rating it a ‘solid nine out of 10’.
