A Darwen woman has swapped a market stall for a boutique of her own and she has ambitious plans for the future.
23-year-old Abby Fielding opened Sunset Amore, on Railway Road in Darwen, last Saturday (January 7).
This is after the success of her online buying and selling business that she launched in September 2021.
The former fashion and design student said: “I had just finished university in April 2021 and decided to buy some clothes online and sell them for profit on Facebook.
“It turned into quite a popular business from there.
“I started with barely anything and didn’t have a lot of funds behind me.”
In January 2022, Abby had a permanent stall at Darwen market that she opened on Saturdays.
A year later, Abby has opened a boutique of her own and she is amazed at what she has achieved in such a short time frame.
She said: “I just didn’t expect this all to happen so fast as I’ve done all of this in a year-and-a-half.
“I thought it would take years before I would get a shop.
“I didn’t think my career was going to head in this direction and I started this business to get a little bit of extra money but it has actually worked out and I really enjoy it.”
Abby said there is “something for everyone” in the shop, which caters for people of all ages from infants to the older generation.
She said: “We sell a bit of everything from baby clothes to trousers. It’s the type of place you can go for day wear and also to grab something for a night out.
“We offer a range of clothes that will cater to a variety of ages and stock sizes six to 22.
“I really think there is a need for a shop like this in the area as I only know of one other boutique in the town.”
While the cost of living crisis was a worry for Abby, she says the risk to open a boutique is worth it.
She said: “I had the confidence to start the shop but was obviously a bit worried about the cost of living crisis. But you have to take a risk.
“In the future I would love to have a couple of shops or even a bigger shop.
“I would love to make my own clothes to sell, in the future”
