A primary school which ‘lies at the heart of the community’ continues to be ‘good’.
Brennands Endowed Primary School, in Slaidburn, has been rated ‘good’ in their first full inspection since 2014.
Inspectors said that the school was ‘safe and welcoming’ and is ‘at the heart of the community’, with pupils taking part in important village events, such as the May Queen Festival and help at church coffee mornings.
Executive headteacher, Sarah White said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to share with our community that we continue to be a good school.
“The framework has high expectations that rightly puts curriculum development at the heart of inspection and the report is an absolute testament to the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm of our team.
“Since I joined the school in September, I have seen everyone work extremely hard and I am pleased that the inspectors recognised this.
“I am immensely proud of every member of the school community.
“I’d like to thank the staff, governors, parents and their wonderful children.”
Leaders have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and learning which children live up to.
Pupils work well in class and take pride in their work.
The report reads: “Pupils behave well around school. Pupils know the rules and are polite and respectful towards each other and adults.
“Lessons are rarely disrupted by poor behaviour.
“Pupils do not worry about bullying. They know that if it happened, it would be dealt with quickly by staff.”
Children in the early years benefit from a ‘broad curriculum’ which provides ‘secure foundations from which to build their later learning’.
Teachers are knowledgeable about the subjects and leaders want to make learning memorable, however, inspectors said that in a small number of subjects, ‘leaders have not thought carefully enough about the different types of knowledge that pupils should know or how this should be ordered over time’.
The report adds: “This means that pupils do not build on their knowledge, including their knowledge of the methods and processes linked to these subjects, term by term, or year by year, as well as they should.”
Safeguarding measures are effective.
