Images show the aftermath of a two car smash in which the front end of one vehicle was destroyed.

The incident happened around 6pm on Saturday (January 7), in Livesey Branch Road at the junction with Worsten Avenue in Blackburn.

Two men have been charged, one with drink driving and one with failing to provide a specimen following the crash, which left a woman and her son needing hospital treatment.

Photos shared with the Lancashire Telegraph show a silver Audi and a Ford Ranger Wildtrak following the crash at the junction.

The front of the silver Audi had caved in, and a cover from the rear of the pickup looked like it had been dislodged from the vehicle, ending up on its side next to the Audi, with both vehicles written off.

Kerry Parkinson, who was a passenger in the back seat of the Ford pickup, said the silver Audi was travelling down Livesey Branch Road at speed and ploughed into the back of the car she was travelling in as they turned into Worsten Avenue.

Ms Parkinson, whose four-year-old son was also in the vehicle with her along with another child, had been picked up from a play centre by her friend.

She suffered fractured ribs and her son may need to have plastic surgery to his face following the crash.

She said: "We were coming from Ewood along Livesey Branch Road and we went to turn into Worsten Avenue next to the Bargain Booze.

"We were almost in the street and then we felt someone smash into us.

"We span in a full circle and then landed on the grass and span round and were almost back out onto the road.

"The car was clearly speeding down Livesey Branch Road.

"There was a bit of an altercation and then some neighbours came out to drag me out of the car because I was trapped.

"My little boy was bleeding from his face.

"The police wouldn't call us an ambulance so we had to go to hospital ourselves and my son had to go and see the plastic surgeons.

"The police took my details but they've not been to see me for a statement or anything yet.

"If we hadn't been in that pickup, if we'd been in a smaller car, we could've died."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said they arrested two men at the scene.

The spokesperson said: "We were called around 5.55pm on Saturday to a report of a collision in Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn.

"An Audi and a Ford had been involved in a collision.

"Two men were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

"Aaron Pendlebury, 40, of Higher House Close, Blackburn, was charged with failing to provide a specimen. He is due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on February 2.

"James Johnstone, 42, of Livingstone Road, Blackburn, was charged with drink-driving. He is due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on February 23."
