A BLACKBURN beauty salon and NHS wig supplier has been granted permission to put new signs on a heritage-listed building in the town centre.

The Gossip Beauty Salon is to take over a vacant shop unit in Church Street’s Waterloo Pavilions.

The business run by Mrs Nahida Mariam Chaudhri is currently operating from Lower Cockcroft in Ewood.

She has now been granted listed building consent to put up two signs on her new premises by Blackburn with Darwen Council planners.

The Waterloo Pavilions were built in 1835 and their Georgian splendour meant that they were granted Grade II heritage-listed status.

A report recommending approval by planning office Adam Shaikh says: "The proposal relates to the installation of a fascia sign running the width of the building.

"This will be in the form of a white aluminium composite panel with vinyl text and 5mm Perspex letters. No illumination is proposed and the sign will be located within the fascia below a shaped cornice.

"The existing fascia is an integral part of the shop frontage and forms the entablature above the windows of the Classically designed building. This is considered to visually contribute to its historic character.

"The proposed sign is minimal and thus poses no significant harm to the character or appearance of the row of listed buildings. Similarly, the signage is not out of context of the host building or the special interest of the wider Cathedral Conservation Area."
