The iconic ‘rave gurner guy’ who went viral when a video of him in a Preston nightclub circled the internet didn’t know he was famous until his boss showed him the footage.
Shaun Jackson took the internet by storm in 2014 after the Rumes Nightclub photographer caught him partying quite hard at the aptly named ‘Bounce by the Ounce’ event.
The promo video blew up online, but Shaun was none the wiser until he went to work the following Monday.
Appearing on an episode of Flexxed TV’s Podcast, the Rave Gurner legend told the hosts Mikey Davies and VJ Brand that he walked into work on Monday morning when his boss, who was also his mate, confronted him with the iconic video.
Shaun, who has four kids, said: "He [his boss] come to me and went, 'Oh my god you had a good night Saturday night didn't you?' and I was like ‘how do you know’ and he showed me the video."
On the Monday morning, it had 300,000 views. By Wednesday night, Shaun said it had jumped to 2.5 million and it just kept carrying on.
Luckily, his boss Danny ‘weren’t bothered at all’ by his antics since he’s self-employed and ‘can do what he wants at the weekends.’
He added: “I got told that the cameraman sold that four second clip of me to a film company for £10,000.”
Shaun says he didn’t see any of the alleged profit but still gets recognised from the short clip to this day and last November, Shaun capitalised off the iconic video by releasing a toy of himself.
The Gurner Raver Raindance Edition toy was created and sold by Joe Shark Sandwich Toys for £40.
Owner Joe Slinn said: The toy was created by Joe Shark Sandwich Toys which specialises in bootleg style toys/display pieces.
“The toy company is set for big things as this style of art is growing ever popular.
“The idea was pushed forward with the help of Justin Turner who is a partner in Raindance promotions.
“Justin managed to get in contact with Shaun Jackson and got his approval for the making for the toy.
“And bang within three weeks Shark Sandwich Toys released the toy and the rest is history.”
