An East Lancashire cheesemonger, that went into administration last August, has been sold.

Singleton’s Dairy Limited, formerly based in Longridge, has been sold to family-run cheese and dairy producer and wholesaler Carron Lodge, which is based in Inglewhite.

Consulting firm Kroll has confirmed the news and said the sale was completed on December 22.

The sale includes the trading premises, as well as tangible assets and branding including the famous Grandma Singletons cheese it was renowned for.

Trading as Singleton’s & Co, the family business had been handcrafting award-winning cheeses in the UK for more than 80 years.

It supplies produce to both retail and wholesale, as well as exporting to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Some of their products, including their ‘Probiotic Cheddar’ and ‘Parlick Fell’,  secured awards.

Back in 2008, the Queen even paid a visit to the business and was given a tour of the site.

Covid-19 and rising costs were blamed for the company’s fall into administration.

In August , the Company went into administration and Kroll’s Andrew Knowles and Steven Muncaster were appointed as joint administrators.

Andrew Knowles, senior director at Kroll, said: “Singleton’s and many of its brands have a well-established reputation for quality products both locally and abroad. With the completion of this deal, we’re pleased that this long-standing tradition will continue into the future.”

The deal was supported by Taylors Solicitors and Sanderson Weatherall, who provided legal and property advisory.
