Volunteers and community groups will take centre stage at the annual 1V Awards dinner.

Organised by One Voice Blackburn, the ceremony honours finalists in five categories and will take place on February 25 in the Concert Hall at King George’s Hall.

The 1V Awards Dinner was first organised in 2013 and winners are selected by trustees of the Blackburn-based community group.

This year’s event theme is Saturday Night Fever and will be hosted by a group of 14-year-olds who are all part of One Voice Blackburn’s youth groups – Alisha Seedat, Aleeza Isa and Maya Khalid. They will be joined by 13-year-old Bilal Hussain.

1V Awards manager and One Voice Blackburn marketing lead, Sundas Bakhat, said: “The breadth and scope of the nominees is truly remarkable.

"We live in a town which has people and organisations who are constantly engaged in charitable, volunteering and innovative ventures.

"Our final list is probably the best yet in our 10 years of the 1V Awards, and that is saying something.

"With the sheer number of nominations received it is indeed a major prize to be on the finalist list. So well done to all 21 in the shortlist.”

The Aya Hachem Young Person of the Year award is named after the young student who was tragically murdered in May 2020.

The nominees for this award include Hasti Jahanghiri, Muhammed Karbhari, Safaa Patel, and Layton Smalley.
