The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice across Blackburn with Darwen this Boxing Day.
The weather warning was issued at around 9.30am this morning and is in force from 6pm this evening (December 26) to 10am tomorrow (December 27) and covers many parts of the North West, including Blackburn and Darwen.
People in and around the affected areas have been warned of icy conditions and the Met Office has adviced the public to expect travel disruptions, and chance of injury from slips and falls.
The warning states: “Wintry showers fading tonight leading to an ice risk on untreated surfaces.”
Drivers and cyclists have been told to expect some ‘icy patches’ on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, so there is greater chance of accidents.
The Met Office added: “Patchy snow on higher routes, both from wintry showers this evening, and also on leading edge of rain early on Tuesday, making for somewhat difficult driving conditions.”
Temperatures in Blackburn with Darwen are as low as two degrees Celsius today with a high chance of rain this afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Wintry showers will continue through this evening but as skies clear, patchy ice is expected to develop on some untreated surfaces.
“Cloud and rain will arrive from the west through Tuesday morning with temperatures starting to rise.
“Any snow will be reserved for higher ground with patchy and temporary accumulations of one to two cm above around 300 to 400 metres.”
