A man is being questioned by police after a burglary in Chatburn last night (Wednesday, December 21).
He is in custody after allegedly running away from the scene of a burglary, crashing a car and failing a police drug test.
This was revealed by Ribble Valley Police who also talked about some of their achievements this year.
This year, the police force has recovered stolen property, prosecuted a number of offenders for animal cruelty crimes, conducted drugs warrants and more.
Sgt Kev Day, of Ribble Valley Police, said: “It's been a good while since I have been on here with an update, but I thought that I would take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
“We have had an incredibly busy year with some testing incidents and great results.
“Our teams have conducted drugs warrants following information that we received from you and these are all hopefully heading toward successful charges.
"It has been great to see that the public have been prepared to talk with us and give us the tools that we need to bring drug dealers to justice.
“Just last night our patrols, along with a dog handler arrested an [alleged] burglar in Chatburn who was making away from the scene of his [alleged] crime. Unfortunately he [allegedly] crashed his car, failed a drugs test and will be discussing multiple charges in custody today.
“Our Rural Task Force have recovered stolen property, prosecuted a number of offenders for animal cruelty crimes, worked closely with neighbouring forces to tackle cross border criminality and continue to patrol the areas that have not had the previous attention that they deserve.”
Sgt Day said officers are working hard to keep the community safe.
He said: “We have seen Sergeant Duncan Hall join the team this year. He has brought a wealth of experience and a determination to ensure that the Valley is policed to the high standards that are expected of us.
“Your hybrid officers and PCSOs are out there every day dealing with everything that is thrown at them including domestic incidents, thefts, burglaries, road traffic incidents, sudden deaths, violent offenders and people in mental health crisis.
“They genuinely work hard to ensure that you are all kept safe. Some have been assaulted during the execution of their duties, but they are back the next day, totally undeterred.
“We have attended Parish Council meetings, events and local clubs and gatherings to make sure that you have the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and challenge us where you don't feel that we have met your needs.
“Ours staff are regularly out on the roads conducting speed checks as we are always told by the community that this is one of your highest priorities.
“Ribble Valley is probably one of the only areas where all of the staff have been trained to use the speed monitoring equipment.
“We are working closely with RVBC to further improve upon this next year with better equipment, SPID devices and planned traffic operations.
“Needless to say I could go on, but suffice to say that we are here and we aim to provide you with a service that we can all be proud of.”
