Residents in two Blackburn communities have raised more than £1,000 for an “amazing” delivery driver who goes “above and beyond”.
Iain Muir works for Evri and delivers parcels in both Cherry Tree and Feniscowles in Blackburn.
The original target on the GoFundMe page was £100 but that has been smashed with £1,094 raised through 134 donations so far.
Maria Fogarty, of Preston Old Road, created the fundraiser as a “small thank you to Iain for all he does” and so that he can “have a Christmas drink or whatever he chooses with the money raised”.
She said: “He’s been our local delivery driver for a long time and he always goes above and beyond. He’s got a kind word for everyone and he helps people.
“One time I had him knocking on my door at 9.30pm on Christmas Eve to make sure I got a parcel.
“Everyone in the community agrees that he’s amazing and he works ridiculously long hours and he’s just lovely so he deserves a little Christmas tip.
“During Covid he would speak to people through the door to make sure that they were doing okay.
“He knows the area so well that he knows which other houses you might be at so that people can get their parcel.”
When Maria posted the link to the GoFundMe page in the Feniscowles & Cherry Tree Community Page on Facebook, Iain replied thanking everyone for their generosity and appreciation.
He said: “All I can say is thank you all from the bottom of my heart, I am truly speechless and humbled by this showing of gratitude and kindness and for all the kind words of support and appreciation.
“It really is a pleasure and a privilege to work in your community. Once again, thank you so much. Goodnight, God bless and see you all in the morning.”
The post was also flooded with well-wishes from residents.
One said: “Merry Christmas Iain – thank you for everything you do for us as a community, even hiding my parcels from hubby when I need you to! You really are the best.”
Another added: “You are a true gentleman, so friendly and thoughtful. Nothing is ever too much for you and you do it all with a smile on your face and a little chuckle.”
