A Blackburn memorial event been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
The East Lancashire Hospice’s Light Up A Life event, which helps the community remember loved ones no longer with them over the festive period, was meant to take place on Park Lee Road today (December 12) with the first event at 4.30pm and the second at 7pm.
Due to “adverse weather conditions” the hospice has been forced to cancel the event.
Instead, a video will be posted on its website and social media channels at 6pm.
A spokesperson for the East Lancashire Hospice said: “Due to the adverse weather conditions we have taken the very difficult decision to cancel our Light Up A Life event this evening.
“We have deemed it unsafe to go ahead and your safety is our priority. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused at this time.
“We understand Light Up A Life is an important evening for all of our supporters and is a time we remember our loved ones and come together as a community.
“Therefore we will be posting our Light Up A Life at Home video on our website and social media channels this evening at 6pm.”
The event has not taken place in full for the past two years, with the hospice holding smaller shorter events due to the pandemic, and before that was held at Blackburn Cathedral.
Light up a Life is an opportunity for our community and beyond to remember loved ones no longer with us at this special time of year.
A spokesperson said: “If you have made a dedication in memory of your loved one this year and would like to check the draft Book of Remembrance, before the final copy is printed in the New Year, this will be available at the hospice main reception Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, until the December 28.
“We thank you for your understanding and we wish all of our supporters a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
