With cold weather sweeping across Lancashire at the moment, it is more important than ever to stay safe.
Snow and ice have brought roads across the county to a standstill and freezing temperatures mean that doing everything you can to stay warm is vital.
The weather is expected to stick around, with the Met Office having issued a level three alert for temperatures below freezing and icy conditions until Friday, December 16.
To help combat the conditions, Blackburn with Darwen Council have issued five points of safety to help you and others stay safe.
- Keep indoor temperatures to around 18°C. It should be the lowest comfortable temperature.
- Have regular hot food and drinks. These will help to raise your body’s internal temperature and keep you warm for longer.
- Avoid going outside if you can. If you have to, make sure to wear plenty of layers and keep a close eye out for ice to avoid any slips and falls.
- If you know someone who is vulnerable, check on them – make sure they are warm, have enough food and have any medication they need so that they don’t have to leave home.
- Take extra care when travelling around the borough and avoid any unnecessary journeys.
