Highways officials are to review a town's 'confusing and frustrating' one way system.
Lancashire County Council's roads experts have agreed to look at the circulation of traffic around the middle of Accrington.
It follows concerns from the authority's chairman Cllr Peter Britcliffe that the current system takes vehicle and their occupants away from the town centre rather than into it.
He revealed he had requested the review at Hyndburn's cabinet on Wednesday.
The meeting agreed to lift a 'confusing and frustrating' time limit on two car parks in its main town centre.
The three-hour restriction currently applies to Accrington's shoppers car park located at Abbey Street and Abbey Grange (Cross Street).
The council will now request to Lancashire County Council for the removal of the limit in their annual review of traffic regulation orders.
It will take about 12 months for the process to be completed.
As the senior councillors debated the proposal Cllr Britcliffe, deputy leader of the borough's Conservative group, said: "I have asked Lancashire County Council to have a look at Accrington's one way system.
"It currently takes vehicles away from the town centre rather than into it.
"Its highways department has agreed to review the one way system around the town.
"We want people to be able to get into Accrington town centre to use the shops and businesses there not taken out of it."
The county council is also being asked to lift an order preventing vehicles loading and unloading for private businesses on Broadway in Accrington town centre.
Enforcement of the restriction is to be stopped until the order is lifted.
Hyndburn Council's Labour opposition leader Cllr Munsif Dad welcomed the moves.
