A man has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with stabbing his mother and sister during a row over cigarettes.
Khavar Najim, 35, of Pleckfarm Avenue, Blackburn, was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court on charges of wounding his mother, Musarat Naimi, and sister, Zanub Naimi, with intent to cause them both grievous bodily harm.
Graeme Tindall, prosecuting, said Mrs Naimi received a stab wound to the neck and was in hospital but her wounds were not life threatening.
When her daughter tried to assist her mother she received a stab wound to the shoulder and one to the arm.
Najim was originally arrested on suspicion of two offences of attempted murder before being charged with the GBH offences.

Police were called to Pleckfarm Avenue at 8pm on Tuesday, December 6, to reports of two women being stabbed. They said it was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the wider public.
Najim will appear at Preston Crown Court on January 5.
