Lancashire charities are set to be handed thousands of pounds ahead of Christmas after this year’s Santa Slog.

Boxer Bill Hodgson has been helping to raise funds for charities for several years.

Among those is ‘Secret Santa’ which aims to provide children's centres across Blackburn and Darwen with Santa Sacks.

On Friday Bill began completed his latest challenge by pulling Santa in his sleigh from Southport to the Swan Pub in Kirkham. He was followed by the ‘Rola Cola’ truck.

The appeal has raised more than £11,000 for the charities.

Bill Hodgson and Imtiaz Ali of 'We Love Blackburn', who supported the event, said: “We would like to thank Blackburn with Darwen Council this year for supporting us by posting our appeal on their giant advertisement screens around the town.

“We would like to thank all the local businesses around Lancashire for sponsoring the Rola Cola truck and a massive thanks to our event main sponsors.

“We finished on time, we ended up walking 48 miles. We are going to keep the Go Fund Me open for another week just so we can get a few more pennies in for the six charities."
