Lancashire Police are looking to hire people “to be the voice” of the Constabulary by offering a starting salary of £28,289 for full time call operator roles.
Covering the whole of Lancashire, Police Control Room Operators deal with all emergency (999) and non-emergency calls (101).
On a typical day, the Constabulary receive around 800 emergency calls and over 2,200 non-emergency calls. Each call is dealt with on its own merits according to the needs of the caller who may be vulnerable or distressed.
Commenting on the recruitment campaign, Chief Superintendent Richard Robertshaw said: “When people call for the help of the police, they are often calling on the worst day of their lives.
“The people who answer their call really need to have great listening and communication skills with the ability to remain calm.
“On one call you could be dealing with a victim of a serious assault, then providing support to someone reporting a family member missing on the next.
“No two days are the same, but one thing we can guarantee in this role, is that you will make a difference to someone’s life every day.”
There are a variety of rotas available including full time and as well as several part time rotas, which have not been offered before.
The starting salary is £28,289 for full time roles. There are also a number of other benefits including but not limited to, a pension scheme and annual leave.
